Australian retailer claims that AMD has paper launched its RX 6000 series, awful stock during launch

Australian retailer PLE Computers claimed today that AMD has basically paper launched its new RX 6000 series GPUs. This basically means that most of you won’t be able to purchase any of the new RX 6800 or RX 6800XT graphics cards.

Not only that, but the prices for these two GPUs are way higher than their official MSRP. It’s a bit ridiculous, but in some cases the RX 6800 can cost more than the RTX 3080. And, as we’ve already reported, in the majority of games the RTX 3080 is faster than both the RX 6800 and the RX 6800XT.

As PLE Computers states when you visit its website.

AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series Alert: Paper launch Very limited stock on it’s way. Unconfirmed future quantities.

Unfortunately, we have an extremely limited number of these cards allocated to our first shipment. This small allocation of cards should be arriving at our warehouse/s over the next week or two.”

What this means is that PLE has not received yet this first shipment. So yeah, even if you pre-order from them, you won’t be getting your GPU anytime soon.

A lot of other retailers have also stated that they have very limited stock, while others have not received any GPUs at all. In short, this launch is worse than the NVIDIA RTX 30XX series. This shouldn’t really surprise most of you, as Nick had already informed you about these availability issues.

Lastly, and as we always buy the hardware we use, we won’t be able to get an RX 6000 series GPU. Our plan was – and still is – to get the RX 6900XT, however, we don’t really know when they will become available in Greece. In short, we really feel your pain.

  1. 2020 just straight sucks for anything. Can’t get a new GPU, CPU, sometimes even ram depending on what you want in terms of speed / CL. Even console lovers can’t get a xbox , ps5 unless they are some social media god…

    1. I think there are many more consoles out there than everything else you listed. They’re in “limited quantity” but MS and Sony still claim they shipped “millions” of units. I can’t imagine AMD or Nvidia have shipped any of their new products in the tens of thousands, let alone millions.

    2. Lol and many people who finally got their console order …get stolen in transport… But remember that all of this is just material… Our health is a lot more important…

  2. “ And, as we’ve already reported, in the majority of games the RTX 3080 is faster than both the RX 6800 and the RX 6800XT.” At what, 4K? Even though the majority of gamers play at 1440p and 1080p still? Gamers nexus has stated that the 6800XT is extremely competitive and outright beats the 3080 in a variety of titles at those two resolutions. You can’t just say blank is faster than other blank and not give details.

    1. I always find it quite hilarious how some people can get riled over things like this. Arguing to the death “My favorite is (1 percent) faster than yours how could you claim the opposite!” The truth is it wouldn’t matter (you have no chance to notice the difference while gaming). In the end everyone will choose here based on other preferences. In case of AMD I’d find 16GB being much stronger argument than whether or not it is in some resolution (plus game) few percent ahead or behind. In case of NV it is most likely better RT support and possibly some other extra features like DLSS. Or simply pick whatever you like more and be happy. 😉

  3. Well, no workers = No products. China was one of the countries that was most hit by the pandemic and they’re the ones who make these electronics. Don’t wonder why PS5s, GPUs and CPUs have been paper launched.

    1. ” China was one of the countries that was most hit by the pandemic”
China handled it far far better and right now is in a far better situation than any other country.

      1. Yeah by denying its severity, burning hundreds of thousands of bodies before the families could even claim them and lying to the world about it. I mean in a Stalin sense, they did good by crushing any resistance, destroying any evidence and driving their own narrative that fits their story they spin.

          1. Some of the best experts on China would tell you the same thing. Fox News stopped being an insult when most of us stopped watching it. Conservatives don’t really watch it. They’re just as pathetic as CNN.

          2. “trump2020”
that’s like writing I’m rytarded on a whiteboard with medical data to back it up and then holding it up. so it’s a safe bet for me to not read your nonsense.

          1. You wouldn’t know what data is if it promised you more free crap to vote for.

I’ll enjoy another 4 years of children like you crying online. Thanks.

    2. Oh yeah, I wasn’t clear about the ps5 point. I meant PS5 parts necessary to build PS5s. Like the CPUs and stuff.

    3. China was play-acting for the most part and running wag-the-dog propaganda to get the West to shut down their economies, among a few other reasons.

  4. Author of this article is just not accurate.

    1. PLE is in a sparsely populated area. It makes sense that they wouldn’t get much stock and yes, the distribution is different. Distributors aren’t going to send 300k cards to Perth of all places, no way. It would be like send them to rural village in Pakistan.

    2. Hardware unbox 18 game average for 1080p and 1440p show the 6800XT beating the 3080. In 4k the 3080 beats the 6800XT – again, in across 18 games.

      1. It wasn’t a paper launch. Look at Nvidia financial statements – they shipped hundreds of millions of dollars in GPU. Demand is stronger than ever which is why they sell out so fast.
