Bioware announces “Anthem 2.0”, will be redesigned with the aim to reinvent the core gameplay

Bioware has just announced that it will redesign its latest looter shooter game, Anthem. Anthem 2.0, as I like to call it, will be redesigned, with a focus on reinventing its core gameplay. As such, Bioware may be able to provide better loot, better player progression and meaningful rewards.

As Bioware stated:

“Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.”

In other words, this is exactly what the studio should had done almost half a year ago. Bioware also claimed that it will continue to run the current version of Anthem, but move away from full seasons. Once this new version of Anthem is ready, it will replace the existing one.

“We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.”

So yeah, apparently Bioware and EA do not want to let Anthem die. And after what happened with both Star Wars Battlefront 2 and No Man’s Sky, Anthem may get another chance. Here is hoping that Bioware will not screw things up.

        1. Wait a minute Robo-fernando is downvoting now? Since when did this A.I upvote or down vote, ww this is much more serious than we think. Robo-Fernando’s transformation from A.I to human is almost compete. Damn

    1. You must have inconceivably low standards if you liked Anthem. You probably think Warcraft 3 Reforged was a quality remaster. You probably loved No Man’s Sky at launch as well. You probably play Fallout 76 every week and paid the subscription costs too.

        1. It doesn’t matter how many they are. This is EA’s last attempt to milk whatever life this game has is in it. This game is trash… no matter what they’ll do to it won’t make it less garbage. Just as Fallout 76.

  1. No matter how much you want to make a turd smell nice… you can’t, at the end of the day it’s still a big stinky pile of schhit, it doesn’t matter how you try to cover its smell.

  2. Unless they re-write the lore, world building and story, there is no reason for them to waste their resources on reworking the gameplay. The game failed, shut it down and move on.
It’s sad that they let ME:Andromeda die after 6 months but refuse to let go a real failure like Anthem.

    1. Most likely they will just have it be F2P, make some tweaks and call it a day. Its become quite popular for bad games to be rebranded and relaunched like its a whole new thing. Especially in the mmo space this is something thats very common. On the bright side people do seem to usually realise the product is still bad and leave anyway.

I would say the only dev ive seen make an actual effort to do something about their game being mediocre is the guys behind No mans Sky.

  3. Some say is bad luck to name 2 boats/ships with the same name…… let the thing die.

It’s NOT gonna be free2play as any pos game that fallows the “Live Service” mantra should.
Is gonna be fill with the same insane devs.
Is gonna be a “small” team doing all the work.
The one smart thing i am pretty sure they will do is release it on Steam wanting to compete against Destiny 2.

(Yes i pulled most of it out of my rear, lets see how accurate my farts can be)

      1. Agree. ME3 was “enjoyable” but it retconned ME2 story out and killed any choices you made in 1 and 2.
Still pissed they retconned Cerberus to work for the Reapers when originally they were the only organization trying to fight against them.
But i guess working for the “bad” guys in games is bad. Probably why Sylvanas is out of the Horde aswell since playing as “bad” guys is taboo

        1. They also retconned Ashley because of the backlash from the tumblr people who thought that she was “literally Hitler” in ME1.

          1. Ye in 1 and 2 you can do pro human choices or not. Leave it to players to choose and don’t make a choice for us.
Obviously i do pro human choices but i respect the other species but i’m not going to put humanity in danger just for the sake of others.
This sounds like good old nationalism vs globalism politics haha, i leave now

  4. The only way I see this game bouncing back is if (like No Mans Sky) they got the game to play/look like the e3 reveal (you know… how the game was initially advertised).

Give more abilities during combat (like an actual MMO), allow us to combine suits/powers (like that glitch awhile back), add actual tag team supers/ultimates, stop giving repeated meaningless loot, add more enemy variety (this includes animals), add hostile/feral animals, make the global events actually unique, add some melee weapons with combos instead of spam atk button… I could go on. It’s a PvE game… so why is it extremely limited as if it was a PvP game.

I would gladly buy the game if they actually put forth some real effort into making it an enjoyable experience instead of just spam this against said bullet sponge enemy over and over.

  5. Judging by what they’ve done to the game so far I don’t think even totally reworking the game will improve it. The things they will not budge on like drop rates and weapon models(one model per gun type, no other textures) are the things that will sink the game and Bioware just seems to have a little loading icon everytime people say “increase the drop rates” and “make it fun”.

They can patch in all the flamethrower for 0% for 0 seconds on the last shot guns as they want, but they don’t really seem to understand how to make a looter shooter fun.
