As we’ve already reported, Capcom had accidentally released a Denuvo-free version of Resident Evil 2 Remake to the public. And while we couldn’t really test this version, YouTube’s ‘NeonGaming’ got its hands on it and published a comparison between the “Denuvo-powered” and the “Denuvo-free” versions.
NeonGaming used an AMD FX 8350 that clocked at 4Ghz with an AMD Radeon RX570 GPU and 16GB of RAM. The settings that were also used were a mix of Medium and High (meaning that the game was at various points CPU limited).
According to NeonGaming’s findings, the Denuvo-free version of Resident Evil 2 Remake was faster by 4-12fps. Furthermore, and similarly to all games using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, the Denuvo-free version had faster loading times.
Now while this isn’t a big difference, it is still a noticeable one (especially for those that can barely hit 60fps due to their weaker CPUs). Moreover, it shows that – in this particular case – Denuvo does impact the game’s overall performance. Interestingly enough, Devil May Cry 5 also performed slower when using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech (though in that game the framerates were really high so it didn’t really matter).
Before closing, I do have to note that in this comparison NeonGaming used different characters, something that could potentially affect the overall GPU usage (though it wouldn’t affect the CPU performance).
Below you can find some comparison screenshots between the Denuvo (left) and the Denuvo-free (right) versions of Resident Evil 2 Remake!

I’m lucky enough to have a rig that ran the game great, but this could easily be the difference between playable and unplayable for those on budget PC’s. DRM always harms the customer in the end.
Could’ve used those fps when I was playing this at 4K/HDR on my tv.
get a 244hz monitor you peasant.
I have a 165hz at 1440p. More than enough.
not good enough, go get a 240hz and then get a razor to shave your armpit hair you nasty weirdo.
Ouch. That’s alot of damage.
damage?
And again proof this crap affect legitimate buyers
As I told to people it does affect performance.
i remember back in the day when you had articles stating that denuvo doesn’t affect performance and some made fun of me for stating that it OBVIOUSLY does
Yes, you are laughing stock.

Starforce was worse.
Wow that’s a 6 or 20% difference in performance. Pretty disturbing if you ask me. And just to gain that performance back you are going to have to overlock your own hardware. Shame shame
imagine wildlands without denuvo.
it’d be still shet.
yeah but it will look prettier.
Possible 10% performance increase is huge
For something that does not bring anything to the end user, yes it is.
Or you don’t? I said possible, P O S S I B L E
Then only thing i can think of is language barrier between us. Like if i get 55fps and had 50fps then it’s 10%. Atleast calculator says it’s correct. You can correct me if im wrong and i take it without hard feelings
Thank’s i like stronger drinks aswell. Finnish strong alcohols like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmiakki_Koskenkorva
I find it odd how anyone could think that running a virtual machine as DRM, would require “practically no overhead”, as these idiots try to claim.
I mean, you don’t have to be a software engineer to figure out that, yes, it’s software that is actively and persistently running, there will be overhead.
I don’t need videos to prove it, or corporate, lacky apologists to prove otherwise.
FCK DRM

I’m shocked by your gay avatar.
B-b-but Devuno doesn’t affect game performance.
It only affects performance on really old hardware. You need to upgrade.
It’s only a measly 4-12fps so it doesn’t matter.
The dumb sh*t Denuvo apologist say when faced with facts.
Edit: When they can’t come up with a counterargument, they’ll just insult you because they’re brain dead af.
You are blind idiot. “Denuvo-free” version was benchmarked with worse settings (lower fov).

No. it doesn’t… 🙂
Yes, you are blind re**rd https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a2ae5410a2b34b9b1d6582f7186e8c13e5073153456e1e0d291dcab911502800.jpg
one day your mommy will refuse to buy you a new computer, and your hardware will get old, and you will praise those 4-12 fps in Resident Evil xx
Wow we got bada$$ over here. I’m 24 in college (2nd year) with a part time job. My mother hasn’t bought me anything since I was in high school.
I do stop by her house for food from time to time though. Nothing better than a mother’s cooking. But you already knew that, basement dwellers eat their mothers food 24/7.
More than one sentence.. Classic overcompensation ^^
How do expect to hold a conversation with just one sentence. You can’t be this brain dead.

Im not gay, I just dont like people who solves all problems with money and dont understand delicate things
@Zero was being sarcastic you know?
well why don’t you hit them with a fact they can’t deny or fight. I’ve said it before, performance is not the best argument as to why Denuvo is a massive problem and is anti-consumer as it gets. But everyone wants to run the wrong race when it comes to arguing about Denuvo. Is this: If you do not check in every week, you cannot launch your game that you paid for. So if you lets say didn’t play a game for a week or 2 and lets say your INTERNET goes out for a bit. Or you lose power and have to wait till your modem initiates and you decides to play your favorite SP game that has Denuvo, then you are fresh out of luck… Meanwhile the pirate can play their FREE GAME, ANYTIME & ANYWHERE.
The average idiot will hit you with, “Git Gud Internet” and that’s the person you ignores the most because they are an idiot and is being disingenuous because guess what, when a game is long cracked for 3-4 years, why does the legal copy still have denuvo in it? Who exactly is this game being protected from at this point. And the answer is YOU, you are the sucker that bought this denuvo garbage and can’t play their game without phoning home. Meanwhile, me the newly embraced pirate can. This is an example of what i’m talking about. I’ve showed this video here tons of times. Ths is how you argue Denuvo.. Arguing Denuvo on performance is a waste of time, especially since the devs are moving the goal post by posting ridiculous recommended specs, in order to overcompensate for Denuvos HOG.

“well why don’t you hit them with a fact they can’t deny or fight. I’ve said it before, performance is not the best argument as to why Denuvo is a massive problem”
There is more than enough proof that Denuvo causes performance loss so they can’t deny that (hence my comment referring to the fact that they move the goal post each time there is MORE proof).
The online checks and performance loss are equally important problems.
Denuvo’s hog is real.
F1 2018: 1.06, CODEX (with disabled but present Denuvo): ~high settings, ridiculous load times to the title screen, and sometimes even to races. Sometimes tanked performance in a few races, too.
F1 2018: 1.16, FitGirl repack (with no Denuvo in exe): very high settings, very nice loading times in general. Felt much smoother.
And this is a 3-series i7, mind you. Imagine if it was something even older.
Except that video was inaccurate and the uploader had to redo the test in an updated video he linked that shows the Denuvo version got equal and superior performance consistently over the non-Denuvo version. Yikes…
^ R*tard Alert
legit customers got denuvo version, while pirates got no denuvo version.. so pathetic for those who buy denuvo games..
So I did try the denovo-less .exe with Update 1.02, and overall it did run a few fps better in few scenes…for example the intro. Overall, it just felt a bit smoother as well.
Publishers that use Denuvo assume that PC gamers are naive and aren’t aware that any program, such as Denuvo, running in the background while they are gaming is using the CPU and affecting performance to some degree.
Umm… I’m all for showing how sh*tty Denuvo is but that 500mb of difference in VRAM usage is suspicious. Don’t care to look at what setting is different though
denuvo haters back at it again.
I hope you are joking. You of all people should be on the side of hating DENUVO. We need you now more than ever comrade.
relax, i’m baiting.
I’d have expected a site like this to benchmark the game on their own. I don’t trust a single screenshot nor the video since it shows 28% GPU usage whilst sitting at 77 fps on a RX 570 w/ Denuvo on.
There’s no FPS gains at all really, the components, mainly the GPU isn’t used as much because the person’s RAM is too slow to handle the DRM layer.
the hit comes from CPU usage not GPU
it is a program buddy
Problem is not software it’s hardware !!! Go and buy decent 2k USD CPU + 1.2k RTX 2080Ti and all FPS problems will disappear s
You’ll be fine off with a 5th gen CPU and a midrange GPU.
He was being sarcastic
Now just have to wait for the official removal of Denuvo by Capcom from Resident Evil 2 Remake, Devil May Cry V and Monster Hunter World
Come on John, you have the game yourself, you should test it yourself. but all in all, we all knew it does affect the performance DMC5 is a living proof and done by tons of testers. so much s*it in the industry, sometimes i can’t choose which i hate the most.
>FOV IMPACT PERFORMANCE WHAT A SURPRISE
Another fake by r/crackwatch “people”.
This site literally spread fake news.
the fov isnt that different and it cant affect performance 10 fps you freaking idiot.
No, the difference is collosal, you f*king re**rdest blackest pirate. That’s like 2x time more geometry on “denuvo” screen .
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a2ae5410a2b34b9b1d6582f7186e8c13e5073153456e1e0d291dcab911502800.jpg
Denuvo isnt the only problem and poorer framerates are not the only “loss” from multilayered, forced DRM.
Even worse are the DRM clients disguised as innocent stores adding yet another layer of DRM (besides other “checks” and handshakes) built to monitor data and steal control from users on top of Denuvo’s constant activity – with the absolute morons fighting over “which store is best” – like choosing between losing an arm or a leg or a nut or an eye, etc. None of them are ok.
Denuvo or not, DRM in any form is the antithesis to the very notion of owning a PERSONAL computer and the way we use them. The goal of companies is to require users to completely relinquish administration/management of files on our machines and the environments in which we run applications – far worse than just frame loss.
ALL DRM must go. ALL of it.
…So I am a bit pissy here – I finished the game twice on the version 1.0 and I used to have these INSANE stutters each time the game started, right ? To the moment that entering every room I haven’t yet been at it freezed the screen for 3-4 seconds so that somebody would immediately sink teeth in my shoulder and I only had sound tell me that…
And NOW on Denuvo-less 1.02 the frigging thing is COMPLETELY gone. None of that sh*t. I am happy, but now I feel like a fool, because the ammount of frustration it gave me… I thought my rig is getting old, but no – it’s completely the game’s fault !
No it’s Your rig, You will need to buy 2k 8-16 C CPU and 1.2K RTX 2080Ti to enjoy stutter free experiences s
What’s that avatar, though ?) As if Sora landed at Limbo universe.
Can’t recall, it’s most probably Jack Skellington (or some other Tim Burton character) custom visualization that I found long time ago on deviantart.
That’s capcom steamapi. You can blame valve for this sh*t.
Denuvo does’t causes stutters.

???? ? ???????????? ?????? ? ??????? 1.0 ? ???????…
No matter how good your game engine is: DENUVO IS GARBAGE.
I pirate all Denuvo & Epic Store games. Started last week and I’m loving my free games that are ALWAYS-OFFLINE. Never again will I have to phone home. I haven’t pirated anything since 2004 and alot had changed on the Piracy scene since then. I’m loving it man ??
I even created my very first meme. That’s how much I’m loving my new life on the 7 Seas ?

What’s seeding?
Uploading torrents.
Who uses torrents these days?
once you download a game, seeding is putting it back up as a ” seed ” for the community so someone else can hypothetically get a faster download speed 😉 no seeds…. no download.
I was kidding. I didn’t realize torrents were still a big thing.
I always seed, always, FFS If I’m being given a game for free, the least I can do is spread the wealth 😉
If you seed it, they will come ?
