Warner Bros and Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead and Evolve, today announced Back 4 Blood. Back 4 Blood is designed from the ground-up as an original, premium title and marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology.
David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said:
“We are thrilled to partner with the proven Turtle Rock Studios team on Back 4 Blood to advance the co-op zombie genre forward with innovative multiplayer gameplay. The talented team at Turtle Rock has been developing amazing games together for a long time, and this is a great opportunity to work with them to create a new gaming universe built specifically with the large co-op zombie shooter community in mind.”
Chris Ashton, Co-founder and Design Director, Turtle Rock Studios, added:
“It’s hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is. We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains. We also have some of the best teammates in the business at WBIE who understand our development process and are equally committed to our player-first mentality. We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away.”
Phil Robb, Co-founder and Creative Director, Turtle Rock Studios, concluded:
“We are not resting on any past laurels. Our goal is to take all we’ve learned and push forward. We know that’s a tall order. We’re growing the team considerably because we’re stepping up to the biggest challenge in this studio’s history. We know this title has to stand out and we fully intend to make that happen.”
Here is hoping that Back 4 Blood will be better than Evolve!

>zombie game
Wait till you see them add a BR mod.
Now i’m not sure about the quality of this game, but i’ve seen soooo little good zombie games in the last years, that zombie/survival craze actually converted into this battle royal craze, i was no fan of zombie games, but i’d take a left 4 dead game over any of these BR trash any day.
for some reason i thought the studio shut down
That reason is called Evolve and it’s a pretty understandable reason to make that mistake.
Evolve was fine and would be better, if it wasn’t for those retards at 2k, as they own the franchise. That being said, TRS were retarded for selling it to them.
TRS is still a re*arded company for selling their new game to WB.
I hope you’re wrong. I really do.
Me too buddy. i would love to eat my hat in these cases, no shame if the end result benefits the end user.
Hard to get excited about a new IP without a trailer.
i can do better, i can be not excited even after watching a trailer.
Good for you.
Don’t worry. Some idiot gamers will be hyped to pre-order whatever it is they’re making on the announcement alone.
Good news comming from them!
Oh two scum company working on a new game. how exciting.
Why is TRS scum?
Evolve and how they managed it.
All those premium editions and preorder bonuses were because of 2K, not Turtle Rock. They’re fault is in making a game that lacked replayability and had under developed mechanics.
Developers are as greedy as publishers, i learned this the hard way, so in my eyes both are equally to blame. if 2K is so bad why go with WB which is worst, again ?
It’s probably the only one who would support them, anyway WB isn’t behaving that bad with IO Interactive is it? I mean they got denuvo, but it was removed recently, but still, everyone is using denuvo nowadays.
TBH IO is doing the exact same thing, game cracked, remove denuvo but still go with online only stuff with no sign of improvements. never forget how WB published Arkham games and MK/Injustice titles, tons of cut content, DLCs and microtransactions.
Those online stuff are no big deal honestly…
Big deal to me, so big that i can’t or don’t want to touch the game because of it. otherwise i would love me some Denuvo-less Hitman game.
But why? There’s no objectively good reason to not buy a game because it has a few online-only features…Especially if they don’t harm the game in anyway.
It’s not like you’re not buying that because of denuvo, which it obviously increases the price, and decreased the margin of profit a dev house has, and also it seems decreasing performance in certain games.
Well i like to start the game offline, and be able to save my progression and items that i found in the last mission and be able to plan the next mission with those items. is that too much too ask ? is there any good reason why i can’t do this ? i
And how is that related to the online only features? I mean in what way? Those online features you talk about only relate to stats, missions timings and co-op missions, so i don’t really understand what is it that you’re looking for. I mean if you don’t like the fact you can’t take items you found on the previous level into the next, why take it on to the online-only features? They don’t relate.
Because it’s an online only feature, you can’t unlock anything offline and there is 0 reason for it to be like that. your progression won’t save, you can’t choose the starting point and planing while offline. you can just start the mission in default without any outfit/weapon/plan/location selection while offline.
And you’re sure of this? So the cracked version also circumvent this? I mean i have the game, bought it for around 20€, and it was worth it, the game run ok for me, and didn’t really give too much thought into online features, and if some of those feature you mentioned are limited to online-only gameplay, i don’t have the game installed now, it would take me too much, but even if so, why bother that much i don’t understand, the game is cheap, runs fine and it no longer has denuvo, i mean if you’re avoiding to buy it only for a question of ethic, then i’m not sure you bought any game in the past 10 years except from a few indie games.
Yes. it all started with Absolution. You play, you unlock stuff, you go to the next mission and none of the stuff you unlocked are there. it’s like playing an RPG title and everytime you go to a new location you lost all your stuff and start from lvl1.
Doesn’t matter if it’s pirated or not, you can’t use them unless you finish the game Online and unlock them online so you can use them in offline mode or in pirated version you simply download a save file with everything unlocked, where is the fun it that ?
I really like the new ones, played the free episode of the first game, and enjoyed it. i also don’t have to buy them, already have both in a shared account which again forces me to play online, lol. i want it in my own library with a functional offline mode.
Well i bought tons of games, AAA games in the past decade, no problem with that.
So you want a feature which was designed with online in mind, not being online, i mean just ignore that feature, besides what items are you talking about, i don’t remember bringing any item from the previous mission, you just unlock weapons, but it’s not like you start with them automatically, if you want to use them you need to equip them, also, i’ve finished the game aiming for the silent assassin rank so there’s really nothing to equip beside a brain and patience, but other than that, you’re refusing to play a game because the feature you want (which were “invented” for online”) aren’t available in offline, so you’re missing a very good game only because of that…I mean if you’re happy with it i guess you shouldn’t be complaining.
I want Hitman to have a seperate offline-mode which it have, but with full progression and stuff. you unlock weapons but in offline mode you can’t equip them, there is nothing there but your main pistol.
No that feature wasn’t invented for online, it was always there, but since Absolution it went online only. you always find a weapon, leave the mission area and you have it unlocked for the next mission or any mission after the unlock but in Absolution,H1 and 2, you find the weapon, you unlock it, and it’s not there anymore unless you play online.
>so you’re missing a very good game.
Shut up and F you <3 , lol. i will play it but i won't buy it, because if i use the shared account i have to be online, so i might as well play the damn thing online and unlock everything. if they remove this restriction, i will buy a copy for myself.
Yeah it was there, but worked differently. Anyway have it your way, but i wouldn’t think even for a second of skipping such game in this moment in time where there’s very very few of valid ones.
In order to release it, they had to sell it to the publisher. Every decision made about the game was made by 2k. TRS couldn’t do anything without their approval.
No, this is just an excuse. They wanted to sell it like that.
Do you have proof? They specificaly said that no one wanted to publish it, except 2k and only if they would sell the IP.
No, do you have one ? no you don’t. so anyone of us can be right. no one wanting to publish it is not a proof, there is something called crowdfunding games, or you know go indie, after all it failed miserably even with a publisher.
TRS knew very damn well what 2K was trying to pull and happily agreed to it. Stop shilling, it’s pathetic and childish.
Again, no one else wanted to publish it.
“no one else wanted to publish” I would like a link to that, since I don’t recall that being the case.
And even so… if the game you’re trying to make can barely attract the interest of just one publisher (of the dozens out there), and the first thing that publisher does to it is force DLC/MTX model on it so it can screw the playbase as much as possible…then it’s pretty obvious that what you’re trying to make is at best a mediocre game.
I have to admit. When I saw “Turtle Rock Studios” in the headline, I instantly had a partial hope it was an article on their closure.
This group of people should be barred from releasing another game, ever again.
They tried something new and it didn’t work. Now, you want the whole studio to close? That isn’t a terribly ration response.
Their previous games were great. I, personally, am glad that there is another game coming to market. The more the better.
Finally someone with a brain!
Just like you should be barred from reproducing.
You missed the ‘you’
I’m all for seeing the spiritual successor to L4D. Those were some great coop fun.
Are you going to buy ten copies to support devs?
Why would I do that?
He is going to do it so he wants to know if anyone else is doing it too.
Meh, I have other devs I would do it for if I was renovating my entire house. It’s all the monies…
Why put it in the past tense?
L4D IS great. Well, I play it at least once in a week and it’s waaaaaay funnier than any (trying not to swear) f¨$#@ing s¨$it of battle royale imo. (not swear attempt: failed)
I wasn’t aware that people still play them. Online is still playable and people get in there?
Always full of players. New maps comes everyday, and also new MODs.
Take a look here.
Evolve was pretty good…but the scummy microtransactions ruined it
Evolve didn’t have microtransactions.
http://n4g.com/user/blogpost/darkocelet/531952
Now stop repeating nonsense.
Well I’ll be. I didn’t even know you can buy skins; that option never showed up in my game. I guess it was locked to specific regions. I stand corrected then: Evolve did have transactions. But come on, those were just cosmetic skins with zero impact on gameplay.
>just cosmetic
Thats how cancer spreads.
No. Cancer spreads because of greedy a**holes and idiots who will support it.
Fire can kill people. Is it evil because of that? No. It’s a tool, just like microtransactions. And it depends on who yields the tool and how isit being used.
BTW, I hate them myself.
Oh i never tried to insult you or say you are the reason. but it all started with it’s just cosmetic, then they changed the game design to slow the progression so they can sell boosters as well, then it went from just cosmetics, to boosters to actual in game advantages.
Sure they are stupid people who support or bought those, but it was a road map from the beginning. until the point that if game don’t sell well or microtransactions wont make much money they cut even more from the game and do more aggressive stuff. thats why i compare it to cancer, yeah you can control it to some digree but it in most cases will spread no matter what, you can only slow or speed it up.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is?
Some guys that worked on Valve left and they are now known as the “L4D creators”, sounds more like a merchandise gimmick than an actual fact.
More microtransaction trash from them me thinks.
Evolve didn’t have microtransactions.
It did. Weapon and Monster skins. lets not talk about the s**ty season pass and different editions with tons of removed features to sell as day 1 DLC some were exclusive to season pass.
I agree, that was pure bulls**t. But blame who made that decision, not who made the game. EA is doing the same sh*t, but people don’t blame for example DICE for it. No, they blame EA. As they should, because they own the IP.
Well i blame both.
lol evolve flopped so hard they have to make a left 4 dead ripoff! even rips off the name!
Rip-off of their own game? Are you high?
It wasn’t their own game (Zero rights), it was Valve’s IP. they left after it’s release and original founder of the company also left TRS and worked as a director for L4D2.
Their as in they made it, not own it.
Still, the main guy behind L4D, left TRS before Evolve, if he was still around i would accept it as their own game or people behind L4D.
Fair enough.
yes there own i.p that they sold to valve. left 4 dead doesnt sound like back 4 blood? it even has the 4 in it….. hope they get sued. lol another zomie game.
Another boring Zombie game. I pass on this one.
Me too, since clearly Valve stopped making games, it’s up to others to make them. And who better to make spiritual successor to L4D than L4D makers?
CO-OP zombie game. Yee thanks for that.
Turtle Head would’ve been a better name. Whenever they’re making something new they can say they’re pushing it out as hard and fast as they can.
All the PR talk and buzzwords already raises red flags
“to advance the co-op zombie genre ”
Our asymmetrical microtransaction sim didnt work, what do we do? MAKE ANOTHER ZOMBIE GAME.
Oh screw off.
Evolve didn’t have microtransactions.
Man I remember the crazy hype for Evolve…
And the crazy flop just after release.
Lol
Hope they do better now, I mean, they have what it needs.
original name 😀
Let’s me just stay positive…if this is a genuinely good game like L4D was IMHO, I will be satisfied! Lets be honest, L4D was a effin blast when it came out, and for wome time after! Both MP Coop and SP with AI was exciting…
Good or not I’ll still play L4D2 for many years to come. The community is huge and there’s new stuff everyday. And the gameplay is awesomely good!
