A lot has been said about Epic Games’ decisions to secure and release specific games exclusively on its digital store. Metro Exodus was a game that out of nowhere dropped Steam in favour of Epic’s store and The Division 2 is the second triple-A games that will be coming to it (obviously alongside UPLAY). However, Epic Games and Ubisoft went one step further this time and decided to prevent all third-party digital stores from selling a key for this new title after its release.
According to a statement issued by Gamesplanet, Epic Games and Ubisoft will not allow third-party digital stores to sell keys for The Division 2 after its official release on March 15th. The game is still available on Gamesplanet – and on other stores – so those interested in it can either pre-order it from their favourite stores or wait until it’s out and then buy it from either UPLAY or the Epic store.
Here is the full statement that Gamesplanet issued.
“Sadly we have to announce you that Ubisoft will not allow digital third party stores, such as Gamesplanet, to sell Division 2 after its release on March 15th 2019. After this date, the game will digitally only be available through Ubisoft’s Store and another exclusive digital store. This will also be true for all upcoming game content such as Season Pass, Extensions, etc.
Take the opportunity to buy at Gamesplanet until March 15th 2019 and make use of the paysafecard promotion as this will be available until the game will be pulled from our stores.
We won’t be able to solve some support requests (e.g. key activated on the wrong Ubisoft account) after March 15th, as we won’t have any more keys to exchange/swap. Please address your support requests to Ubisoft directly for such cases.
Worry not, all purchases that have been completed on Gamesplanet will be honoured. This is also true for gifts, no matter if these have been picked up or not.
Obviously, we are not happy about this decision.”
Needless to say that we are against this anti-consumer move from both Ubisoft and Epic Games. It’s one thing securing a game to launch exclusively on your launcher but to prevent all third-party digital stores from selling keys? That’s a new low in our opinion.
Bad move Epic Games, especially when your boss, Tim Sweeney, was whining about UWP and how anti-consumer it was compared to Win32.

Pretty sure Epic Store lovers aka Valve haters are hiding under a rock right now.
why? this is a great move in fighting against chinese/russian key traders on steam/elsewhere
lmao cause you never bought from them before…look guys, we have a guy here who cares about morality in gaming.

i buy from steam when acceptable. Or did you mean epic store? there great, they give 2 free games a month and i have spent 200-300$ on fortnite.
You do know that this is only the first step, right? Epic (China) is trying to bring the cancerous console war on the PC.
It’ll be fun to witness how the Steam-hating, Ubisoft ethics scandal affected, soyboys at PC Gamer contrive to spin this news as being a positive.
They will though. They’re getting good at it from a lot of practice.
…and when there’s widescale rebellion in the comments section they’ll do what they, like many fellow SJWs, always do. Which is to at first censor and then silence debate by way of deleting comments, shadow banning people, closing the comments section and even deleting the entire comments section as they’ve previously done.
I remember the days when the Left, hardline communists excepted, was all about tolerance and freedom of speech but the so-called ‘progressive’ mutation of Leftist politics, of which SJWs are part, is all about the polar opposite.
So in other words we are killing our game 🙂
Another Anti Consumer move
Keep shoveling money at Epic games. They clearly have your better interests in mind. Can’t you tell?
The human race folks. The most “intelligent” race on the planet. Can’t see what’s right ahead of it, when the writing is on the wall. Unf***inbelievable.
cOmPeTiTiOn Is GoOd.
cOmPeTiTiOn Is GoOd (2)
GASP!!! God forbid companies make efforts to protect their investments and maximize profit …
Making money is evil according to these internet Che Guevera’s. I would love to see these 401k.
That’s ok. I’m preventing my money from touching another perpetually unfinished therefore excused to be sold as a low content, low effort, rinse repeat, wallet siphoning, mobile model scam rebranded and repackaged by marketing con artists as a “service” while using flashy trailers to make people think they are getting more than they are.
I read this as: “We want our customers to pay full price for all our games 100% guaranteed, if there is a chance that YOU as a consumer can save some money by buying keys (legal ones of course) you can go f*ck yourself and wait a year or so till we drop the price if we so desire. So we as a company always win and you get our unfinished and unpolished copy/paste products for ever year after year. Give us your wallet and credit card number at the end of this message, thank you very much.”
I don’t need to say more.
Scum.
Another #EpicFail.
Just don’t buy it, don’t support this kind of actitude.
And not to mention there’s years of gaming and other entertainment to play catch-up on.
Literally! they can stop making games right now and we (many of us) have enough to stay entertained until we die.
True. With my huge backlog of games that I’ve already bought and the list of games that I would like to play one day if I possibly have time to with several hundred games on it and then I also like to replay games every few years if I really enjoyed them I could go on for a long, long time without needing to buy a new game.
Games could have ceased having been made in 1994 and thanks to Sensible World of Soccer I’d have been fine with that!
Yeah, games are really expensive here, and it trippled since our re*rded economy is in free fall and i have 300+ game on steam+gog and haven’t played them all, not to mention my 30+ games on Origin that EA stole and my uncle’s account that we share with +1000 games, lol. and there is no need to buy a new hardware too 😀
I’m going to download Civ6 to play, i have the standard version and on other account we have it with all the expansions and stuff, maybe MonsterHunter but it’s Denuvo, i wait for capcom to remove it, heard good things about it.
So true and it keep on growing, yet i have to juggle between familly life,my job and studying night classes, i think ill die before ill even complete 50% of my backlog
Too right. Plus the latest CEMU update is now publicly available so I’m far happier playing the likes of Mario Kart 8, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario World, Bayonetta 2 and many more on PC than buying anything from EpicFail Store.
I hope you actually have a WiiU and play backups, otherwise it would be really sh**ty enjoying the games but not giving at least some money back to the creators. Trying to play BotW on CEMU prompted me to make an effort and just get a Switch a few days later, together with the game, something I had in plan since the Switch was announced.
Yep, I own a Wii U and plenty of original boxed and digital games for it.
I would like to see MetroExodus PC sale numbers on Epicstore. a month (almost) have been past and no words.
But on related note, i wouldn’t even touch that crap even if it was free and it was the only game left to be played in the world.
Yep, everytime they go with player numbers (MS Store) or bullet shot or how many character’s special power used in their game you know they are talking to their shareholders.
You know what’s absolutely hypocritical about all this “competition”, is the fact that the Steam spy guy works directly for Epic, basically spied on Steam to collect data from them using a program I’m pretty sure Valve never really liked in the first place, then using said data to basically suss out one thing (the 30% cut, which was public knowledge anyway) Then of course the guy stopped doing it once the EGS launched and likely won’t use the same method for EGS because it’d make the company he works for looking terrible.
The guy is scum to me at this point though.

Meanwhile Devil may cry 5 has sold almost 200,000 according to steam spy in justo ne day!
Meanwhile Devil may cry 5 has sold almost 200,000 according to steam spy in justo ne day!!
What does DMC’s sells have to do with Metro Exodus and RTX keys?
It’s why they gave up giving out userbase numbers and console sales, because they pale in comparison to their competition, so they’re now putting greater focus on XBL being used on other systems/platforms, so they can eventually go back to boasting their userbase numbers, while technically making use of all other platforms to lump sum a number of “xbox” gamers.
MS is still at the boasting game, and the casuals/xbots don’t even know it.
Why should it matter to any of use how many copies a game sells?
Because companies do it all the time and giving public access to sales data provides us with an insight into how a game is performing sales wise and for the company in general.
Companies like to brag about sales data or userbase growth publicly and have done for decades, so it’s telling when they suddenly stop providing numbers and refrain from talking about the state of their company performance/sales in general.
This is clearly the beginning of something really bad for the PC as a gaming platform. I bet that Tencent (China) will force every gaming company to sell their games on one store. No more keys that you can buy on GoG or GMG and use on Steam or Origin.
Tencent is the cancer that will kill PC gaming.
China is quite literally trying to encompass the West via all sorts of methods, from trade deals to out-breeding everyone else, to simply copying everyone else and trying to buy out everyone else.
I decided I was not going to buy any new games this year. I have plenty of games to play.
I do not see how anyone could defend this.
I don’t see why any of you are upset about this. Most of you we’re against the Epic Store before this so it shouldn’t effect you one bit unless you were going to buy a cheap key while still b***hing about the Epic Store.
sadly, yes
“Bad move Epic Games, especially when your boss, Tim Sweeney, was whining about UWP and how anti-consumer it was compared to Win32.”
Trying to hold these people accountable, is like trying to stick something to teflon. Don’t waste your breath. (er…. keyboard in this case)
I can make plasma stick to teflon…
Good, then make it stick to your face.
Good, then make it stick to your face.
Hypocrite Tim Sweeney 2.5 years ago:
“The risk here is that, if Microsoft convinces everybody to use UWP, then they phase out Win32 apps. If they can succeed in doing that then it’s a small leap to forcing all apps and games to be distributed through the Windows Store. Once we reach that point, the PC has become a closed platform. It won’t be that one day they flip a switch that will break your Steam library – what they’re trying to do is a series of sneaky manoeuvres.”
That guy is such a disappointment. I believed in him too, when I read the articles years back on ars Technica site. Such a shame I tells ya.
No truer statement have been said Boss. “Power Corrupts the best and attracts the worse”. Now that he has his never ending printing press of money a.k.a Fortnite, he decides that he’s gonna replace the “bad guys” by becoming them. Haha what a guy i tell ya. I bet he goes to sleep at night thinking he’s justified.
It’s your fault you believed he was on your side. Common sense should have told you he just wanted to replace Microsoft’s store with he’s own.
Oh Lord…
Sure Man…
You choose to idolize these men for their technical abilities 20 years ago. How does this change any of that?
Windows is an operating system, Epic Store is not. Do not equate the two.
Greedy Epic Games jews back at it with another anti-consumer trick.
excuse me? anti semitic comments are not tolerated here. that kind of behavior is unacceptable in 2019, i want an apology now.
Hahahhahahahaha
You can always report him to Pakistani authorities like you used to say…
unfortunately i moved out of pakistan to start a new adventure in saudi arabia. i also lost my contacts in pakistan which means my friendship ended with musadir, salim is now my best friend. i can report him to saudi government but they hate jews as well.
Epic is owned by China (Tencent).
But they’re totally now owned by Tencent and that monopolistic company doesn’t influence them at all, not one bit.
Why would anyone buy this from the Epic Fail Store since you are forced to run Uplay anyway
The Epic Store has major improvements on the way soon. They plan to add a Search Bar :p
Search Bar is out.
Tell it to people who buy Ubi games on Steam, then.
You would still have to use Uplay if you bought the game Steam.
Never underestimate fanbois. And “game” “journos” (quotes intended).
What about people who want original english version but they live in language restricted areas? They won’t have the option to get the key. They can’t even torrent it.
If they come on this site and try then there will be bloodshed. This site isn’t a safe place for their kind.
And Epic’s list of anti-consumer practices grows by the day For those wondering, here’s a detailed list of all the things wrong with Epic
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/NoExclusiveGames/discussions/0/1796278072844560561/
And here’s the TL:DR version just in case
TL:DR version :
-Forced third party exclusive deals and robbing us customers the options to to buy from other stores like Steam / GOG
-Restricting / preventing other official stores from competing and selling those games on their stores and any third party sites for cheaper
-Implementing all kinds of anti-consumer policies on their stores and strongarming them on customers.
-Lack of many features of other storefronts / launchers, chiefly Steam
https://imgur.com/P6cIq1u
-No forum support
-Review system is opt-in by developers / publishers who has full control over it
-Epic’s disdain of PC gamers calling them toxic, pirates and blaming PC gamers for lack of sales
-Limited and convoluted refund system
-Epic owned 48 percent by the Chinese company Tencent who is infamous for spying and censoring people
-Epic collaborating with the Chinese company Tencent to sell user information to them or with any others in the world as stated in their EULA
-Epic’s lack of security on their store / launcher with numerous hacking successful attempts
-Epic does not comply with the GDPR laws set by the EU and have seemingly broken a few
-Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney expressing his desire for an open free PC platform where stores and customers can freely compete and buy games from without restriction while doing the exact opposite with forced third party exclusives and strongarming customers with anti-consumer policies. He has recently stated on Twitter that Epic wants to compete by creating “store wars” and forced third party exclusives on their store instead of improving their stores with better features and services to appeal to customers
https://imgur.com/a/3836Qnf
-Bad or lack of regional pricing
-Bad customer service
Tim Sweeney once had the respect of many PC gamers. Through his own doing he’s now seen as cancer. Quite the fall from grace even though he’s filthy rich so may not care. I’ll gladly continue taking the free games they’re giving away while also pirating anything anti-consumer of any worth, e.g. Metro Exodus.
He didn’t change. You guys assumed he was on your side because he dissed the Windows stores.
Origin and GOG have 3rd party keys. Fix that chart image.
Just last week, the devs from Human-head removed the pre-order of Rune 2 from Steam. Just waiting on the hat to drop when they announce its now an exclusivity on Epics sh*t store.
Ubisoft just don’t want my money any more.
I’m impressed John.
Cool one more reason I will pirate your game thanks for the free copy In advance
Not this game tho. It’s always-online.
Lol. Watch this sold for 30 bucks before long.
And you’ll buy a copy.
the root of all anti-consumer behavior is epic..
Epic tried to get ‘Cyberpunk 2077” as exclusive epic store also. Too bad for them, they only received a big ”No,thanks. CP2077 will be no exclusive title for any store. Personally i’ll buy it from GOG,so, CDPR (creators of CP2077), will receive full money, cos they deserving it. Hats off to CDPR. Small company refused Epics millions.
CD Project Red has their own store, why would they give their biggest release of the year to another store? You’re praising them for nothing.
The only people upset about this are the anti Epic Stores guys who were gonna buy a cheap key on G2A.
@JOHN, the system specs are out for Division 2. Check this out.
https://store.ubi.com/us/the-division-2-pc.html
https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/radeon-rx-480-for-1080p60-will-be-plenty-for-the-division-2.html
Nope, Guru3D was simply late to the party (this is why I’ve said it before and will say it again that you should not keep spamming everything you find in other websites, and at least check if we had already published an “X” story). Those requirements are really old and we’ve already covered them -> https://www.dsogaming.com/news/official-pc-system-requirements-and-pc-features-revealed-for-tom-clancys-the-division/
Ah, my bad…I wasn’t aware of this, and I just saw it on Guru now. Didn’t mean to SPAM you with this……Sometimes we don’t remember things, and I don’t check ALL the articles posted on DSOG..
JOHN, I don’t have any intention to bother you, nor SPAM you by sending links…..I’m sorry if you feel that way…..I apologize if you think my suggestions, even though unnecessary, are just a SPAM……
Nope, that’s not the case…I was just trying to help…
Anyway, at least check this new video forThe Division 2.
It features AMD exclusive graphical features being implemented in this Game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foBQ0M-Wgt8
IGN is about to rate it 9/10. Their zombie-noobs will buy the game.
Have you guys seen this news:
We can see that Epic Games plans to add support for “Improvements to Offline Mode”, “Could Saves Support” and redesigned store pages within the next three months, while also planning to add features like Wishlists, a news feed and User Reviews in the near future. Mod support for games is also expected, bringing the Epic Store in line with Steam’s Workshop
