Post-launch free content announced for Resident Evil 2 Remake

Capcom has just announced that a new game mode will be added for free to Resident Evil 2 Remake after its release. This will be the first post-launch free content that will be arriving to this highly anticipated remake, though there is no word yet on its ETA or whether it will be followed by additional free content.

This new free game mode will be called The Ghost Survivors. In this mode, gamers will be able to play as multiple characters with randomized elements and an in-game shop (this shop will not feature micro-transactions. Capcom claims that this mode will be very replayable and the only confirmed characters so far are Robert Kendo, a USS Member, and Katherine, mayor’s daughter (additional characters will be announced at a later date).

It’s also worth mentioning that the remake will feature two additional game modes at launch that players will be able to unlock: The 4th Survivor and The Tofu Survivor.

Resident Evil 2 Remake releases on January 25th and will be using the RE Engine. The remake offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.

The classic action, tense exploration, and puzzle solving gameplay that defined the Resident Evil series will return as players join rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters’ perspectives.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Ada better be playable, and the USS should be HUNK, I mean why not also have Leon and Claire? They are already in the game it would take no time at all.

          1. Mr. X is a Tyrant wearing a trench coat.

Gun Survivor takes place in the facility where they mass produce them and you can see they are Tyrants.

  2. Awesome! Just like original RE2, except upgraded massively through an amazing looking game engine; we are al back to glorious survival horror roots the series should have never left.

I can’t wait for the 25th! RE3, and CODEV next! Then Dino Crisis 1&2.

    1. “Just like original RE2, except upgraded massively”

yes just like the original and massively bigger….. despite cutting the area from the beginning to the police station… you know the most iconic part of re2. you know the part they had playing on tv`s at video game stores before and during launch to make people want it.

  3. bad news for readers on this website, they prefer full fledged dlcs so that they can pirate it for free instead of getting smaller content.

  4. So tired of games that are released today, and completed sometime a year, or two, or never later.

Is it so hard to delay it a month and just FINISH the friggen thing and be done with it? This isn’t some “live service” garbage, to keep people “engaged and paying”.

    1. If the main story is finished and polished, I see no real reason to delay the entire game for some side content.

    2. I see where youre going with this but youre pointing at the wrong game. The game is done and ready, the side content is realistically still in pre-production so why delay it? Its free anyway so who cares? Its not like “on-disk dlc”

      1. Eh…. you’re right really, as are the other two replies below. Bad target on my part, but it certainly applies in many other games out there. Think I unleashed on this by knee-jerk.

    3. But the game is releasing completed
This is just extra free content
This is what an online connection should be about.

If this was 10 years ago Capcom would be releasing a DLC unlock that you have to pay for, “DLC” which was already on the disc.

  5. “The Tofu Survivor”

Is that like a junior Polygon/Eurogamer/Kotaku journalist activist NPC on the road to graduating to full Soy Survivor status? /s
