MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries gets a new gameplay trailer teasing its destruction system

Piranha Games and IGN have shared a new gameplay trailer for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, teasing its destruction system. From the looks of it, gamers will be able to destroy turrets, enemy vehicles (helicopters and tanks) and mechs.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be the first standalone single-player MechWarrior title in development for PC in nearly 15 years, and will feature intense PvE ‘Mech combat in an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice.

This new MechWarrior game will be powered by the Unreal Engine 4, will support mods as well as 4-player co op, and is currently planned for a December 2018 release.

  1. Lackluster. I’m sure the game will be fine, but the destruction is hardly anything to phone home about.

    1. In MWO we can only knock down some trees and lamp posts, so it’s nice to see some environmental destruction.

  2. I’ve dreamed for literally decades of a damage system in mechwarrior that accurately represents the books and the franchise. Where if you laser a certain point of armor, it just melts off and you can see the melt damage. That’s never happened in any of the BT games and I can see it still isn’t possible.

    It’s good that you can actually destroy other stuff though. Even MW2 let you literally blow up skyscrapers in the urban map and MW3 you could destroy almost anything. Same with commander and MW3025 that awful console game.

    I just wish they would stop using the god awful MWO Catalyst designs and please god go back to the OGs like the 3025 Atlas art. I understand the unseen looking different (and exponentially worse) but why do they have to ruin the Timber Wolf for example?
