State of Decay 2 will release on May 22nd, official PC requirements unveiled

Microsoft has announced (thanks IGN) that State of Decay 2 will release on May 22nd. State of Decay 2 is a new survival game that is developed by Undead Labs, and will be a Play Anywhere game (meaning that it will most likely come out exclusively on the Windows Store).

Microsoft GM of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg, said:

“Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with the State of Decay community and to foster deeper experiences with the franchise. We believe State of Decay 2 accomplishes this goal by immersing fans in the ultimate zombie survival fantasy, and we want to give more players the opportunity to join in and experience this unique game.”

State of Decay 2 promises to immerse players in an all-new, multiplayer zombie survival fantasy in which they will  be able to build a lasting community, working with other players or solo to overcome challenges while exploring your own unique story in a world that remembers the choices you make.

State of Decay 2 is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and Microsoft has also revealed the official PC requirements for it (via its Windows Store page). PC gamers will need at least Windows 10 64-bit with 8GB of RAM, an AMD FX-6300 or an Intel i5-2500 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 or an AMD Radeon HD 7870.

    1. Apparently it is coming to Steam, later on.

      “What about Steam?
Stay tuned – we’ll have more to share in the future.”

It is on the web site in the FAQ.

      1. Well MS treats the Windows Store aka UWP apps like a Xbox One or rather a console. Basically they make a deal with which ever dev/company that agrees to their terms to make their game be a time exclusive to the store for a certain period of time. After the term is over they are free to release their game on Steam etc which are just like(seen as) putting your game on another competing console.

Since I am a game dev just telling it as it is. You usually do something like that for money, anti piracy(if you are a DRM fan), help with marketing, free resources and other perks that help you complete your project etc or just for pure profit.Reason vary from project to project.

My gamer side 100% agree they will loose a lot of sales for not going on Steam and I would say any dev knows this, so usually that means X company made a real good deal with MS.

      1. I thankfully don’t own an Xbone X but I do own “something” so it makes more sense to buy it on Steam.

  1. Oh well guaranteed poor performance then even on high end rigs.

UWP version of games run approximately 30% worse than other client versions from my testing.

    1. Do you have a link to these tests? 30% is a devastatingly large impact on performance. And based on your testing you attribute this solely to UWP? That’s quite a bold claim.

      1. Well you can choose to believe whatever you like. However, I have purchased and tested various AAA game titles and the performance difference between the UWP version vs the Steam etc. version was considerable.

Just one example Shadow of War maxed out at 3440 x 1440 with 4k textures Steam version rock solid 70 min fps. UWP version on high settings only not Ultra cannot maintain a rock solid 60 hz. With dips even into the low 40s. I even left a review on the windows store explaining as much.

Pretty much similar for various other games.

        1. While I want to trust you, I simply cannot see a reason why UWP would cause such an impact. I need to see empirical data

        2. Or it could just be that I can’t be arsed and if you want to disprove me then go ahead. I just put the info out there whether people choose to take any notice or not is up to them.

I had this discussion before with a few other members who had also encountered performance differences with UWP I think that it is common knowledge by now..

  2. My body is ready for this game, I can’t freaking wait! Man I was so worried it be delayed or they got into some dev issues with it, this news is epic!

  3. I played the original on the 360 and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was but i dont own a Xbone and only my laptop is Win10, my main rig still has Win 7. This win store crap is so messed up…

    1. Are you joking? These are some of the least demanding specs I’ve seen in a 2018 title. A Gtx 960 is at best a low-midrange card now.

      1. True. The 960 is slower than the 1050 Ti which is an entry level Pascal. I don’t remember most 960s being 4 GB though so that’s probably a consideration for anyone considering recommended specs with a 960. Really we’ve passed beyond the point where 2 GB VRAM is enough unless you turn the settings way down.

    2. I’m talking about not this game specific, but in general. UWP known for their ridiculous system requirements, for example Gears of War,ReCore,Quantum break, for that time. The graphics is nothing special, but need high specs PC
