Owen Deery has informed us about a new Half Life: Episode 3 fan game he’s been working on. Titled Expo Decay, this Half-Life game is based on Marc Laidlaw’s Epistle 3 story, and is an top-down shooter. Moreover, this fan game has just been released and is available for download.
As Owen told as, while he wanted to create a new Half-Life game, he didn’t want to make yet another FPS. And this is the main reason why Expo Decay is uses an isometric viewpoint.
“I wanted to build a Half-life game, but I didn’t want to retread the same FPS ground that Valve had already explored. I knew that I would never be able to match what they had built. So I decided to go in a different direction and make a top-down game that combined the action of Half-life with something more quickly accessible like Lego Star Wars or Hotline Miami. The combat evolved into something really fun, so I also included an arena mode. In the arena mode, players can blast Combine and Zombie hordes infinitely! Along with this came a few mutators (like Big Head mode) to add some variety.”
In Expo Decay, gamers will play through Marc Laidlaw’s “Epistle 3” storyline. Players will discover the (unofficial) fates of Alyx Vance, Dr. Breen, Judith Mossman and of course, Gordon Freeman.
Those interested can download the full game from its official website.
Owen has also released some new screenshots and a trailer for Expo Decay, and you can view them below!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. EPISTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MINDDDDDDDREKTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
cute!!!
WTF is this S#!T!?!!
Half-Life is becoming a joke…this is disgraceful!
Effin Valve, why can’t they just release a damn official Ep.3?!!
I agree, but I have to say that Garry’s Mod already made jokes/memes out of Half-Life characters. G-Man, for example, now reminds me of kids toying with skeletal meshes and making horrible amalgams of scenes with cartoon and realistic characters interacting with each other on puke-ugly maps.
Not my fault, those videos pop up in the recommended section because they’re wildly popular (like, say, Roblox).
like the respect machine games had for wolfenstein?
It really hurt knowing there is no real sequal to Half-Life Episode 2. What’s next Half-life: Episode 3 in Pachinko… Seriously this is pathetic… Damn, just let Half-Life die in peace.
