Sold Out Sales & Marketing has announced Immortal: Unchained; a new hardcore action RPG that is set in a dark, sci-fi universe. Immortal: Unchained is described as a unique take on a well-known sub-genre, blending a third-person action shooter with a hardcore RPG, and below you can find its debut screenshots.
Sarah Hoeksma, Marketing Director at Sold Out, said:
“Immortal: Unchained is a fresh new take on the emerging souls genre. It is not for the faint-hearted and is a seriously challenging game. The story and ranged combat really sets us apart from other games out there and we’re really excited to finally be showing Toadman’s first IP to everyone at Gamescom.”
From the writers of Battlefield 1 and The Witcher, the game features a diverse arsenal of unique weaponry for ranged and melee combat to aid you in exploring the world as you encounter brutal enemies and gigantic boss fights. Immortal: Unchained’s ranged combat mechanics allow for tactical point-of-contact shooting to play strategically for your needs, when slowing down an enemy or disarming them may be more beneficial to gameplay than simply blasting them away.
Immortal: Unchained is currently scheduled for a Q2 2018 release.
Enjoy!

Too human not sht edition.
Very cool, can’t wait!
Color me intrigued. “From the writers of The Witcher” – color me doubly intrigued.
Will this game Sold Out??Because from what Sold Out Sales & Marketing describe, this game will have Sold Out potential xD
Im double interested now.
Which games do you like? Pokemon, Mario and Zelda?
“Souls-like” is becoming yet another dull, tedious, marketing bullet point that publishers & developers keep forcing into games “because the Souls series sold so well! :D”
It’s pathetic.
Actually its the other way around.
Souls-Like was invented as New Genre by FromSoft, now other devs are slowly accepting it as Actual game Genre and making games.
What both of you said is:
kohann jensson: I was ecstatic, until i read “third person”. Meh…
Zatara: “FPS” is becoming yet another dull, tedious, marketing bullet
point that publishers & developers keep forcing into games “because
the Doom series sold so well! :D”
P.S. Please do list all the “tens of souls like” games, no Indie 2D crap, pixelart allowed.
I know of The Surge, Lords of the Fallen and Nioh, thats it.
Well, they did call “FPS” games “Doom clones” for the better part of a decade before the term evolved into “FPS”, sure, but at least shooters were a new genre, whereas the Souls series is just a different take on the RPG & J-RPG mechanics that we’ve had for a long time, now.
If people want to make a sub-genre out of it, that’s fine, since it is indeed its own thing – to a degree – but either way it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a very over-used term right now that’s being wildly slapped around because people think it makes their game look more interesting, deep, or whatever.
Alternatively, it’s a term bandied about by random people because they see alleged “similarities” between the Souls gameplay & [insert name of random game here], like A$$ Crack Origins. If that’s not overused & misplaced, I don’t know what is.
Souls games are unique, RPG is a generic term, anything with Role Play is RPG, most games have such elements now, even shooters.
Whats unique is 3rd/behind the Player camera + 1vs1, 1vsMany, 1vsHuge boss battles that not button mashers or combo based like in Action games (Ninja Gaiden etc).
JRPG has literal translational of the term, it was games made in Japan that have turn based strategic battle.
Games like Zelda or otehr action games weren’t strictly JRPG but action-RPG, most people glue the terms together without understanding.
Now JRPG is also used on on Japanese games that have Japanese Style and feel to them.
We just need to coin a proper name for SoulsSborne genre: Tactical-Action or RolePlayCombat
That’s why I specifically said sub-genre. Even if the Souls games are different from others, that only means they’re on a different branch of the RPG tree. At the end of the day, they’re still RPGs though.
Which is why the term FPS-RPG has begun to be a thing in the last few years, yes.
J-RPG is a sub-genre of the RPG genre as well. Yes, J-RPG is a general term for Japanese games, which is why the J-RPG genre in turn has multiple sub-genres, ranging from Dragon’s Dogma to Final Fantasy to the Souls series. None of these are the same, yet they’re all Japanese RPGs.
I’m not sure how exactly Zelda ended up being categorised under the same moniker as Diablo……?
But either way, sure, RPGs inspired by Japanese RPGs. They’re not “J-RPG” in the strictest sense, no, but if they’re inspired by Japanese systems, then they’re arguably Japanese RPGs, though that’s a more case-by-case basis thing, obviously.
“Tactical Action” makes me think of ArmA. ArmA is “tactical” & shooters are far more “tactical”-minded (terminology-wise) than RPGs will ever be. Hell, RTSs are closer to being “tactical” (terminology-wise) in people’s minds than an RPG ever will be, regardless of what gameplay systems one includes.
So, the Souls games would be J-RPG-RPCs, with the “Souls-like” games being RPG-RPCs. Hm.
RPGC?RPCG?We have similar taste, but IMO Dark Souls trilogy is the ultimate TOP of gaming, all the way with HL2, Metro, F:NV, Witcher2, DS1, ME, DAO, FF7
Watch_Dogs1 was okeyish, WD2, was liberal social experiment about hipster as viewed trough the eyes of 40yerras old liberal white people: Yo dog whats up!
Quake Duology for me, Quake 3 arena is not my for me, hate MP.
A:BF is also the only one that I played and i rather enjoyed it, ill try AC:O for sure.
So you are strange, we hate the same games but you dont like Dark Souls? Maybe its too hard for you or you dont like the setting? I like European castles, demons etc.
Didn’t liked Nioh because its asian.
I’m mostly with you…. aside from Watch_Dogs, Dark Souls, Pokemon, Mario, Zelda (case-by-case basis for these, as the older ones are classics) & “almost all MP games that aren’t Quake or UT.”
Like, yeah, nothing compares to Quake 3 & UT2K4, definitely, but there have been some amazing MP games within their own veins over the years 😛
