Legacy of Kain Online F2P Spin-Off, Nosgoth, Has Been Cancelled

Square Enix has just announced that the free-to-play online Legacy of Kain spin-off, Nosgoth, has been cancelled. This does not surprise us of course as a F2P game was not what Legacy of Kain fans were yearning for these past couple of years.

As Square Enix announced:

“It is with a heavy heart and an immense sense of sadness that we must announce the end of Nosgoth’s development. Servers will continue to run until 31st May 2016, during which time you will be able to play the game as normal. After that date, Nosgoth will be taken offline for the last time.”

According to the FAQ provided by Square Enix, new and existing players will be able to continue to play Nosgoth until May 31st, however players will no longer be able to make real world purchases in the game. In addition, all purchases made since March 1st will be automatically refunded.

As for the future of Legacy of Kain, Square Enix had this to say:

“Any future Legacy of Kain project will be considered independently of Nosgoth and on the merits of the proposals alone.”

  1. Good nothing of value was lost now finish the singleplayer it will sell like shadow of mordor, it is very similar.

        1. Good idea, now that would be a remaster that I would actually buy.

A remastered collection would be even better.

        1. Is there evidence that it would have been as generic as Shadow of Mordor? I see no comparison to AC or Arkham in the wikipedia article.

  2. It was fun to a degree. I’d drop in every so often, I just felt it was still too limited in the actions you could accomplish. Very much Rock, Paper, Scissors with less emphasis on player skill.

  3. I was in the Closed ALpha … it was OK.. It would be epic if it was 2004 😛 It had the AvP feel but the micro-transaction in the horizon turn me off

  4. “Let’s revive this legendary FULL PRICE SINGLEPLAYER ACTION ADVENTURE series with great CUTSCENES by making a FREE TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER game with NO STORY that shares some themes but honestly doesn’t even look similar.”

At least they are aware of how absurd their endeavor was in hindsight, when they admit this blunder has no implication on Legacy of Kain whatsoever.

  5. It’s all about banking on successful franchises. Legacy of Kain seems like a niche market right now.
