During its UDK livestream, Epic Games has just confirmed that it is making a new Unreal Tournament for Windows, Linux and Mac. This will be a free title, it won’t be plagued by microtransactions, will support community-developed mods and maps, and will be powered by Unreal Engine 4. And yes, it’s coming from Epic Games itself. The team is doing it in close collaboration with the community and wants to get everyone involved, get their opinions and hear what gamers and developers want from this new UT game.
Thomas is a close friend to John ‘john2’ and John ‘WhatGoesAroundComesAround’. Thomas, John and John basically came with the idea of DSOGaming. Thomas has been helping John with News articles these past years, and prefers to stay in the background than the foreground.

Yeah, the maps were so dull and dark overly post processed, horrible menu UI destroyed by consoles yet again.
If it turn out dull and dark, slow and non populated then it’s the community fault as much as the developers. We have the opportunity to voice what we would like to see, what kind of gameplay we enjoy the most etc. I’ve also seen one of the original UT99 composers being on the community forum, interested in composing music for the new game. So I think this will turn out to be very promising.

If you call the ULTIMATE competitive game “pointless” then ok…you must not have 1 competitive bone in your body……but I do….i love intense competition and Unreal Tournament was SO intense and fast paced..you had to think fast and EVERY gun was unique/friggen awesome!!!! Every gun had 2 very different firing abilities…. basically like 2 guns in 1. B A D A S S. Oh, and it had NO silly aim assist. Basically, it was BETTER than COD EVER will be…it was for real gamers…ones that liked intense SKILLED competiton, not perks and aim+radar assisted competition…. UT was THE game that put your aiming skills and quick thinking/movement skills to the test…it was like Chess and a fast paced sport mixed together..if you dont like that then why even post…you’re on the wrong side of town son. Cant wait to get competitive again, you can go play hello kitty or whatever you think isnt “pointless”, but calling UT pointless is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard someone say about any videogame……I’ll GLADLY buy a new PC for THIS game..havent played pc in years…but this is the baddest game of them all, and after all these years I still havent seen ANY game come close to UT. Oh and they better bring back those voice taunts! “Oh yeah!!!!” 😛 “Lets ROCK!!!!” : ) And that announcer…..”HEEEEADSHOT!” Oh, and bring back the dances too…and TEAM LMS + LAST MAN STANDING!!!!! I do have to say though – I am surprised they dont want to bring this to the console market. They could DESTROY cod if they marketed the game right…and released DOZENS of free maps on top of the HUNDREDS made by the community….COD what??!?

there really isnt a need for steam especially if its an online only game. They will just use their own launcher with DRM connected to their servers. Similiar to Blizzard’s way of doing it.

I remember Linux support being promised for UT3 as well, and that never happened. And as far as it being free, UT has always been basically a tech demo for the folks wanting to license the engine. Makes sense that they would want to make it free.

That theme music of UT in the back made the hair on my body stand up….so much nostalgia from the first golden age of PC gaming!
