Report – A Wii U Emulator Is Being Developed

While Nintendo is busy working on it’s newest game console, one programmer is busy working on an emulator for Nintendo’s most recent console the Wii U. This project would make for the first that we have seen for the Wii U and the first of the 8th generation of consoles.

The project at this point is just in the beginning stages so it will be some time before we see any form of in game screenshots. As right now the project is just working on emulating the most basic of system architecture (which isn’t exactly “basic”).

If you are interested in this project and have questions, there is a great thread on /r/emulation which several devs from other emulation projects have answered several questions on the basics of emulation. There are also comments made by the developer of this project himself as well.

      1. Citra development is working really quickly too because the 3DS runs on ARM and as we all know ARM CPUs are really well documented. Whereas the Wii U runs on a PowerPC CPU, not that PowerPC isn’t well documented it just isn’t used by anybody except Nintendo and IBM anymore.

        1. Yeah, I was really impressed first tima I’ve saw it, then I remembered that it uses ARM.
Can’t wait to finally play Zelda in 60 FPS 😀

  1. Good… But there is nothing on Wii U that interests me right now. I was interested in Star Fox but its gameplay footage was pretty disappointing. The new Zelda game looks cool though.
    EDIT:
Bayonetta 1 and 2 should be good.

    1. Also mario maker without having to spend 300$ on a console would be ncie i feel like If Nintendo just made games for Steam OS even they would make more money

      1. they probably run like crap like all the other Japanese companies ports, yea im looking at you sqenix/ and whoever the hell ported that dynasty warrior.

  2. I think we need an smart phone to play games with this Emulator as second screen or something like that.. I just hope its a success. Good luck

    1. The PS3 will indeed prove more challenging. The Cell Processor was developed specifically for the PS3, whereas PowerPC CPUs although this particular one was developed for the Wii Uit is still a known architecture.

          1. ah i cant wait for the day i can play tekken tag 2 on my PC. dont wanna have to buy an old console again just to play that.

          2. Tekken 7 will come to pc so we will not need tekken tag 2. All the previous tekken gamaes(tekken 1-5 and tekken tag 2( are fully playble on pc with ps1 and ps2 emulator. The PSP version of tekken 6 can also be played on pc with psp emulator. So only tekken tag 2 we can not play on pc.

          3. im looking forward to Tekken 7 but im gonna miss the tag feature alot, Tekken Tag 2 is the best fighting game to date IMO and i love alot of fighting games. I know the others are on emulators and i do have Tekken 6 on PPSSPP but having noone to play against kinda sucks. Its a shame Tekken Tag 2 never came out on PC , i reakon it would’ve done well. ahwell maybe they’ll add a tag mode at some point to Tekken 7.
