Alien Isolation Xenomorph screenshots

Alien Isolation was originally a third-person game, gameplay footage from the prototype version

Alien Isolation is a survival first-person horror game that was developed by Creative Assembly and was released in 2014. The game quickly became a hit and is considered as one of the best Alien games to date. However, this game was originally meant to be using a third-person perspective instead of the first-person viewpoint it has.

YouTube’s ‘NeoGamer’ has shared a video, showing the prototype version of Alien Isolation with its cancelled third-person viewpoint. This gameplay footage was captured from Creative Assembly’s presentation in the Game Developers Conference 2015 and will give you an idea of what the team aimed to create back then.

Even back in those early days, Alien Isolation was a survival horror game. The game was then called “Alien Year Zero”. Its prototype demo was heavily using dynamic lighting in order to create a claustrophobic experience, and its third-person camera allowed players to have a better understanding of their surrounding area. However, it appears that this perspective wasn’t that immersive which is why the team decided to switch to a first-person viewpoint.

What’s also cool here is that parts of this prototype demo were used to the final game too.

Enjoy!
