Wing Commander IV The Price of Freedom feature

Modders are working on a remaster of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom

Wing Commander fans, here is something special for you today. A team of modders is currently working on a fan/unofficial remaster of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom.

This remaster will be using a brand new engine, RealSpace, that has support for the Vulkan API. However, the remaster will require the original game, meaning that it will load missions from it.

As the leader of this team, Pedro, has stated:

“Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom Remaster will offer a more modern experience by loading the files from the original game into a new engine, complete with specially created, high definition assets.”

This remaster promises to improve the cut-scenes and the game’s graphics. My guess is that the team will be using AI techniques in order to improve all of the FMVs. However, the game’s missions will remain the same. Furthermore, this remaster will support flight sticks, XInput compatible gamepads, as well as Mouse and Keyboard.

Now the big question is whether the team will receive any C&D letter. According to its leader, this mod should be safe.

“We aren’t creating a standalone product, just a method to improve the user’s experience of a product they already own.

The original product is required to be purchased legally in order to play.

We aren’t claiming ownership of the intellectual property, or the assets included in the product. All copyrights, trademarks, logos, credits, etc will remain in place.

This project doesn’t compete with EA’s products.”

There is currently no ETA on when this unofficial remaster of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom will come out.

Enjoy!
