Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void feature

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void Has Sold One Million Copies In 48 Hours

A lot of people believed that Blizzard was nuts to release the third part of StarCraft II on the same day as Fallout 4. Well, it appears that Blizzard had nothing to fear as StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void has sold one million copies in its first 48 hours.

So, good news for all strategy fans I guess. Still, November is packed with a lot of triple-A releases on the PC. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4 and StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void released a couple of days ago, and we just got Football Manager 2016.

And if that wasn’t enough, Star Wars: Battlefront and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate are coming next week.

So many games, so little time…

PC exclusive sells a million copies in 2 days, PC multiplatform game Fallout 4 sells a 1.2 million in 24 hours, Indie games and third party games selling like hot cakes. PC gaming golden era.

    • FasterThanFTL

That is something I completely agree with you.

    • Robby97

      Agree as well.

    • Don’t worry, the console dudes still think PC gaming is dying. Shame, cuz they don’t even trust pure numbers. Those people are beyond mind controlled.

Anyhow, it’s great to see this game selling so well. Wings was awesome and the Zerg expansion was even better. It has one of my favorite RTS singleplayer missions ever. If this is even 80 % as good as the other ones, its just pure gold.

I’ll buy it later sadly. Fallout 4 and the Witcher 3 are waay too long and big. -_-

My only gripe with the new PC Golden Era is the lack of exclusive games from bigger, or well known devs/publishers like in the 90s and early 2000s. It’s going to be a long time until we get a true game for PC right down to its core.

      • Sean

Star Citizen is a true PC game.

        • JFpaes15

But it’s a crowdfunded game, it’s ridiculous that PC gamers have to shell out money for the development of a game made for their platform because no developer have the balls to do so.

          • Sean

Yeah well, they will be epic because of it, better than the years junk AAA devs give us, there AAA game are not that good lately anyway, neither are the console exclusives.

          • Umair Khan

            1. Anything made by Blizzard is AAA.

            2. When was the last time when Consoles got AAA exclusive not held hostage by Sony or Microsoft? Seems like no one makes exclusives for Consoles willingly anymore. They only do that for PC.

            3. PC has indie, AA (mid tier) as well as AAA exclusives. “AAA” mostly used for Console games or big multiplats from EA, Ubisoft or Activision is just a buzz word. These games are overpriced half as*ed games with no replay value. A game doesn’t need countless TV ads to be called “AAA”. I’ll take beautifully handcrafted RPG made by 40 people over, over hyped dude bro shooter crap made by 1000 people with 200 million dollars marketing.

            4. People look back and say, it’s not getting great games like xyz anymore, that it used to get in the past but the fact is, PC gaming never got as much media attention as Console games got. All of awesome PC games became famous as time progressed. Games like Mafia or Freelancer weren’t hyped to death. They were overshadowed by GTA and other mainstream games but became legendary as they became famous few years later. Same is the case here. People who say PC doesn’t get great games anymore will be remembering current games 10 years from now and complaining that it doesn’t get those games anymore.

            5. PC is indeed in its second golden age. Those who say otherwise don’t know where to look. There are so many awesome games that are coming out in 2016 for PC only that it’s not even funny including Total Warhammer, Inner Chains, XCom 2, Divinity Original Sin 2, Dirt Rally, Black Desert, Squadron 42, Unreal Tournament and so on. Then you have PC centric multiplats and timed exclusives like Overwatch, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Everspace, Shadow Warrior 2 and many others. It doesn’t matter how the game was funded. What matters is a good game and luckily PC has games that are funded by publishers, by devs themselves as well as by crowd.

            6. It’s funny when Console gamers say that all PC have is low budget indies and when they are asked to post list of their exclusive, they post a list full of last gen indie ports, so called “teh console exclusives”, remasters, and bunch of filler crap with only 2 or 3 real high profile exclusives and most of those high profile exclusives are yet another run of the mill shooters. Console gaming is dead… Current consoles are wanna be PCs with terrible library of games. PC is the single most interesting platform right now. Learn to try different genres and stuff and you’ll never be bored. Just because mainstream crappy websites and game awards don’t mention PC games and only advertise games with bigger marketing budget doesn’t mean there aren’t PC specific games. Don’t let them brainwash you. And some of the biggest “AAA” games are made by handful of people. Portal 2 had team of 30 people, Alan wake had Team of roughly 40 people, same goes for Divinity OS but it just didn’t have marketing of other two games. So you don’t need a team of 1000 devs to make so called AAA game full of dude bro crap like COD. On other hand the most expensive exclusive of all time is a PC exclusive, it’s called Star Wars The Old Republic, which cost 200 million dollars to make. But as I said, it doesn’t matter. It’s not even half as good as World of Warcraft. Good game is a good game. Bad is bad.

          • Sean

Yep, Consoles need AAA to sell ,end of story, they’re toasters without AAA, Xbox sold a lot of consoles on it’s exclusive Halo franchise alone, Playstation has always been marketed on it’s exclusives the same way, except PS4 exclusives are terrible, basically, Uncharted is the only relevant title and that’s next year, the rest are remasters. Bloodborne is the only AAA worth anything and even that is a Dark Souls clone by the same devs.

Consoles are junk now, they’re purely selling on their name alone.

          • Umair Khan

And those “AAA” games don’t even have enough content. Every year they charge more and give players less and less to play. Halo 5 lacked content that was always in previous games and now the game is full of microtransactions. Look at so called “AAA” from EA called Battlefront.

They are charging 120 bucks for that half as*ed game. Meanwhile I can play Divinity OS for 40 USD and enjoy the game for 70+ hours and it has a lot of replay value. What’s the point? The only advantage that games like Battlefront have are TV ads and Celebrity cameos, used to attract casuals.

          • Insight of Olostronus

The funny thing this game sold one milion copies around 48 hours, meanwhile BloodBorne on Ps4 2 milion copies in a couple mouths. Rofl

          • Uhuru N’Uru

I prefer to keep the devs in charge, to make a true PC game,
Rather than, any AAA Publisher. making decisions based on profit proections.
Gaming PC users are to small a group, to get games based on profit.
To get true PC games we have to fully fund them. That removes profit as a motive for making the game, the only motive is to make a great PC game, the backers can help the devs try to create the game they desire. They only have to try, success is the reward, the crowdfunders profit is the finished game.

It’s investing in games though, that’s as risky for Publishers as for crowdfunders, their rewards for success are just different.

A fully crowdfunded game doesn’t succeed by selling games, after release. It succeeds by giving the backers their rewards.
Mostly that’s the game, post release sales are a bonus.

  • FasterThanFTL

More than what Halo 5 achieved in its 1st week. Now who is dead.

  • Daniel Anderson

Any debilitating issues? Kinda disappointed I didn’t much disappointment about the release.

    • Paul Insco

Please edit your post or this kitten here WILL NOT get its treat for the night.

  • Umair Khan

Despite the fact that Fallout 4 came out on exact same day… Impressive and well deserved. Amazing game. Best campaign in the trilogy.

    • That is why i didn’t buy it yet. I’m 200 % sure it would of sold even more if FO4 wasn’t out on the same day.

I’m still busy with the WItcher 3 aswell.. those games are so longgg and epic.

P.s. Is the campaign better than the zerg one? That one was just pure joy in a gaming form!

      • Umair Khan

Yes it’s better. HOTS was awesome but this one has even better campaign design.

      • yeahyeah

Ok, I need to vent some disappointment about HOTS campaign.
WOL had excelent campaign. At first I had some tension about it because it was in some ways much less serious and more local than SC and Brood War but after few missions I began to like its space western-style.
After completing it I saw trailer for HOTS campaign and my expectations grew sky high.
You know when I played original SC campaign in childhood I was impressed with Zerg so much, like, wow, look at this, it is not a building it’s organic! It is breathing! As if the creep is kinda body and the “buildings” are actually its organs!
        My head exploded over this.
And then HOTS 🙁 Zerg just stopped to be so alien. What was happening on Leviathan was more appropriate for some earthly TV talk show IMO. Bickering, rivalry, debates, wisdom lessons and, oh god, character development o_O
I dunno aren’t they are that title says: swarm? They are not even supposed to have individuality, let alone personal growth.
Zerg are not so “zergish” in HOTS. Except Abathur. He was awesome.

  • archaven

1M SC2 vs 12M Fallout 4 on consoles. Consoles trump PC platform hard. And even Apple CEO stated PC is dying. PC has no exclusives and all its games goes to consoles. But no consoles exclusives come to PC. PC will be irrelevant in coming years. Sadly.

    • 7thGuest

      Wut?

    • CaptainObvious

That’s 12 million copies shipped, which includes PC, to meet week 1 expectations. I doubt they sold half that.

Apple’s prediction, which they’ve made many times, had nothing to do with gaming. No one buys a PC solely for casual Internet browsing. Everyone knew that already.

Claiming PC has no exclusives on a StarCraft article? Wut.

    • Umair Khan

Number of copies shipped =/= Total sales. “Apple CEO”. LMAO.

      4/10 (For try)
