SimCity Will Not Require An Always-On Internet Connection

All hell has broken loose yesterday, when a lot of gaming sites reported that the new SimCity game would require an always-on internet connection in order to be played. Well, it seems that this is not entirely true as EA has made a clarification about it. As it was reported by GameSpy, the game will require an internet connection in order to be started. However, the game won’t kick you out if your connection drops after signing in.
This is certainly a step in the right direction, however it does not solve the issues that most PC gamers will face with Maxis’ upcoming title. SimCity is a game that appeals to a lot of gamers and some of them will definitely want to play it while traveling with a bus, or when they are at their parents’ home, or when your internet is simply down.
Not only that, but there will be some ‘other’ versions that will be fully playable in offline mode. And as we’ve said countless of times, purchasers should not have in their hands an inferior version of a game. In fact, their version should be superior to that of a pirated version and it seems that this won’t be the case with SimCity.
Here is hoping that EA will, eventually, back down and won’t include this kind of DRM in their game.
